Seattle’s French Fest, March 22

Seattle Center Festál:  Seattle’s French Fest:  A Celebration of French-Speaking Cultures highlights French influence around the world and in our region, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday, March 22, in Seattle Center Armory. The Fest offers French-inspired products, cooking demonstrations and children’s games, live music and dance, theater, a career fair and hands-on workshops.

Dedicated to promoting French language and culture, French Fest provides an enlightening introduction to La Francophonie. This year the festival hosts Seattle’s first French Fashion Show. Sixteen models will parade down the catwalk accompanied by French music to showcase the creations of professional French fashion designers.

Le coin d’enfants (children’s corner) offers all-day activities for young people. A special French Fest passport program enables them to earn special treats as they travel from booth to booth, acquiring passport stamps as they complete engaging projects.

Festival-goers may partake in a tour of French culinary offerings. Tasty treats abound with mussels and fries, sandwich parisien (ham and butter baguette sandwich) and delicate macarons on the menu. They may also participate in the 3rd annual Best Baguette Competition and help decide which local bakery will take home the top prize.

In 2015, Seattle Center Festál explores the “art of culture” in 23 celebrations on weekends throughout the year. The events, organized by ethnic/cultural organizations in partnership with Seattle Center, make use of indoor and outdoor spaces on the grounds and offer wide-ranging entertainment, food, visual displays and exhibits and hands-on learning opportunities. The annual series forms the bedrock of public programming at Seattle Center, captivating and enlightening festival-goers as they experience the distinct cultures that influence the character and course of our broader community.

Seattle Center Festál is a program of Seattle Center Productions. Admission is free-of-charge. For more information on French Fest and other Seattle Center public programming, click on www.seattlecenter.com or call 206 684-7200.
