Between 30,000 and 50,000 participants are expected for the Seattle Womxn’s March on Saturday, Jan. 21. The 3.5-mile route will leave its starting point at Judkins Park in Seattle’s Central District around 11am, proceed through downtown along 4th Ave. and arrive at Seattle Center through our entry at 2nd Ave. N. and Thomas St. Although the Center is being used primarily as a dispersal point, there is some live music planned on the grounds as well as a participatory art project in the Founder’s Court.
We expect the first marchers to start arriving between 12 noon and 12:30pm, with stragglers arriving as late as 4pm. Rolling road closures are planned along the route, as needed. Bus loading around the campus, in effect until as late as 6pm, will take up the east lane in front of KeyArena, the east lane of Warren Ave. N. between Republican and Mercer Streets, the south lane of Mercer St. between Warren Ave. N. and 4th Ave. N., one lane along 4th Ave. N./Republican St. to 5th Ave. N., the west lane of southbound 5th Ave. N. to Harrison and Taylor Ave. N. between Harrison and Thomas streets.
Although the City of Seattle will make efforts to keep the traffic as normal as possible, we do expect congestion and blockages on 2nd Ave. N. between Denny and the Center and on Denny Way between 2nd and 4th avenues between 12 noon and 4pm. The march will be staffed with “peaceful marchers” and some private security.
