Folk songs, dance, foods, Tae Kwon Do, films and art displays highlight Korea’s cultural evolution at Safeco Insurance Festál: Korean Cultural Celebration, Sept. 12, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., at Center House.  

The Celebration, now in its sixth year at Seattle Center, recognizes Korea’s traditional Harvest Festival Day, called Ch’usok, and allows festival-goers to gain insight into this country’s customs and contemporary culture. This one-day event includes an authentic Korean wedding ceremony, an elaborate exhibit of award-winning student artworks and an exhibition of works by members of the Korean American Art & Cultural Association of the Pacific Northwest. (KACAPN). 

Did you know? Sandra Oh is one of Canada’s most acclaimed actresses, known for her roles on the big and small screens. Born in Ontario in 1971 to Korean immigrant parents, Oh studied acting and ballet from a young age; and in high school, played the flute and served as class president. She studied drama at the prestigious Montreal Theatre School and starred in stage productions and in two television films. Oh has won several Genie and Screen Actors Guild awards and a Golden Globe. She has been nominated for an Emmy Award four times. She is known to American audiences for her role as Dr. Cristina Yang on the series “Grey’s Anatomy.” She also played notable roles in the films “Under the Tuscan Sun” and “Sideways.”
