You can help Seattle Center secure some significant funding to bring new life and brilliance to the Seattle Mural. It is one of 25 historic preservation projects included in an initiative announced today by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express.
AmEx has donated $1 million to provide funding for a number – but not all – of the selected projects.
However, the project that receives the largest number of public votes is assured funding. We want that project to be the Seattle Mural, and so we need your vote – and we need the votes of all your friends and family. Each person can vote for the Mural once a day between now and May 12.
Here is some background information:
The Seattle Mural is pushing 50. And to be frank, the mid-century, Venetian glass mosaic masterpiece is showing its age. Many of its pieces are missing, faded or cracked. It needs a facelift.
With your vote, Seattle Center can revitalize this landmark artwork in time for the 50th anniversary of the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair.
Created for that fair, the mural has led a colorful life. It set the stage for early performances by Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. It remains a popular venue for concerts, outdoor movies and cultural celebrations.
Go to Partners in Preservation and help us restore this cultural landmark and preserve a community gathering place for generations to come. You can vote once every day between now and May 12. Join us at an Open House: noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 2 at the Mural Amphitheatre. Live music, collage crafts and cake!
