SKC Clinic Seeks Volunteers!

Here is an opportunity to join in an amazing effort to deliver free dental, vision and medical services to those in need. Volunteer registration opens today for Seattle/King County Clinic, Oct. 22-25, at KeyArena. The four-day Clinic requires thousands of volunteers to meet the goal of providing over $2.5 million in free services to underserved and vulnerable populations. Both healthcare professionals and general support volunteers are needed to fill a broad range of functions and shifts.

In 2014, the first year of the Seattle/King County Clinic, 1,500 unique volunteers participated during the week of the Clinic. Volunteers came from across the State of Washington – and from out-of-state as well. In total, participants contributed 25,000 hours of their time valued at more than $1.5 million. This year, the Clinic anticipates the need for 650 people to operate on each day, especially given the expanded capacity in some healthcare areas. The number of patients served each day will be dependent on the number of registered volunteers.

Seattle/King County Clinic accepts in-state healthcare professionals, out-of-state practitioners who have worked fewer than 30 days in the state and students on a limited basis. Although each practitioner registers individually, the Clinic welcomes the participation of established healthcare teams.

In addition to healthcare professionals, over 200 general support volunteers are needed on each day of the Clinic to help with patient registration, food service, escorting patients, managing lines and waiting areas, interpretation, and more. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Volunteers do not need to work all of the days of the Clinic in order to participate. There are full day shifts, shorter set up and take down assignments and early morning work times. Shift times are specified next to each assignment in the online volunteer registration. Whether or not they volunteer at the Clinic, healthcare professionals who are willing to accept referrals for follow-up care cases are also sought. Individuals may register at:  seattlecenter.org/volunteers.

Seattle/King County Clinic, now in its second year, is the largest event of its kind ever undertaken in the State of Washington. It addresses acute health issues and introduces patients to local resources that can help provide continuity of care. Presenting a clinic of this scale represents the serious dedication of a caring community to address healthcare issues at the local level, to make a difference for the most vulnerable among us.
