Uptown CounterCulture – April 17

Uptown Counterculture takes place, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 at Counterbalance Park, 700 Queen Anne Ave N. The free community event brings together Uptown and Seattle Center arts and cultural organizations for an arts-filled, hands-on celebration that builds on the Grand Opening of KEXP 90.3FM on Saturday, April 16.

This informative, entertaining and family-friendly event officially welcomes KEXP to the neighborhood, connects neighboring arts organizations to the Uptown and Queen Anne communities, activates Counterbalance Park and highlights efforts to designate Uptown as one of the City of Seattle’s Arts & Cultural Districts.

Please join Seattle Center and community organizations for the afternoon. Here are the details:

12 p.m. – Uptown Counterculture officially begins

12:15 p.m. – Welcome remarks:  Jackie Ernst on behalf of Uptown Arts and Culture Group, Seattle City Councilmember Sally Bagshaw, and KEXP Executive Director Tom Mara

12:30 p.m.-1 p.m. – Performance, Seattle Opera

1 p.m.-3 p.m. – Information tables/tents and hands-on, creative activities:

KEXP:  Live radio playing throughout the event

Northwest Print Center & Incubators:  Pop-up printmaking table

157 Roy Shelter Community Advisory Committee:  Clothing drive

EMP Museum:   Selfie photo opp

Pacific Science Center:  Interactive learning activities

Seattle Center:  Artists at Play activity with Chihuly Garden and Glass and information on free summer activities

Seattle Opera:  Information on upcoming productions

On the Boards:  Ping pong table

SIFF:  Information on upcoming events and free popcorn!

Queen Anne Historical Society:  Historical display and activities
