Glimpse of China – May 21 at Seattle Center

Journey from Beijing to Seattle through 5,000 years of visual arts, crafts, traditional dance and music of China at Seattle Center Festál:  A Glimpse of China – Chinese Culture and Arts Festival, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, May 21, in Seattle Center Armory.

The 11th edition of the festival gives special focus to Chinese martial arts, headlined by a Liu He Ba Fa (water boxing) demonstration by master Helen Liang of Portland, Ore. (YouTube). Other performance highlights include traditional Chinese dance and music, and demonstrations of Wushu and Tai Qi martial arts. A Tai Qi workshop invites festival-goers to engage directly with the ancient discipline.

A colorful marketplace offers traditional Chinese arts, crafts and apparel. A food truck serves roujiamo, a delicious northern Chinese-style sandwich. Interactive children’s activities include Chinese painting and calligraphy, paper cutting and dance.
