MIKE WINTERS, an officer with the campus Emergency Services Unit, has worked security at the Seattle Center for the past 20 years. He is a popular fixture on campus.
“I come here with a smile on my face every day, and I always give a helping hand to those in need. All the vendors know me because I’m always around to see what’s going on. The urban outdoorsmen, they all know me, because I sit down and talk to them. I take enough time to get to know everybody and know what’s going on. That’s why I know so many people. And when I’m here, on the Armory floor, I feel like I’m at home. I know I’ve got to babysit a bunch of grown-ups, but that comes with the job. When I’m not here, I come in and I hear a lot of things. Vendors, they tell me, or urban outdoorsmen, they tell me what’s going on. I do get some help from them, and it’s great to know them. But sometimes you’ve got to do your job. And I do my job all the time.”
