Seattle Center Festál: Dia de Muertos – A Mexican Celebration to Remember Our Departed 11am – 7pm on Saturday and 11am – 6pm on Sunday, Oct. 28-29, in Seattle Center Armory, presents elaborate altars, colorful face painting, sugar skull making and processions to keep this deeply spiritual tradition alive.
Started in South Park by elders hoping to counter the influence of gangs on their grandchildren, the festival soon outgrew its venue and moved to Seattle Center. Many years later, this annual community celebration has become a gathering place for families and friends, as it happens to be back in Mexico during the festivity. The whole community is invited to join in the activities and honor the memories of loved ones with altar-offerings, music, dance, arts and crafts and beautiful Mexican ornament displays.
Seattle Center Festál is a program of Seattle Center Productions. Admission is free-of-charge.
