Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration Launches this Sunday, May 3

Seattle Center Festál: Asian Pacific Islander (API) Heritage Month Celebration launches with a Facebook livecast, 12 noon to 1 p.m., Sunday, May 3, at https://www.facebook.com/apiheritage. The festival organizers have planned a variety of online activities throughout May to highlight Asian Pacific Islander performers, businesses, and community resources in the region and share ways in which the broader community can engage with them.

Sunday’s Facebook Live launch includes a line-up of special guests, a musical performance, the live streaming Alan Sugiyama Hum Bow Eating Contest, a report by former KIRO 7 anchor Patranya Bhoolsuwan on her recent International Examiner article about racism against Asian Pacific Islanders during COVID-19, and a peek into what the month has in store.

Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration’s Facebook followers will find new information and inspiration each day in May to help them learn about and better understand this diverse and dynamic ethnic culture. Every Saturday, 9 p.m.-11 p.m. starting May 9, followers are invited to tune in to the live Asian Pacific Islanders Can Sing Quarantine Karaoke Contest.

Seattle Center Festál highlights the culturally rich communities who help shape the character and course of our region. The series provides a forum for cultural groups to come together, where they can share their stories with the greater community–and where all can feel a sense of belonging. Festál began in 1997 to offer a central place for festivals to invite the public to join in their unique cultural expression.

Seattle Center presents Festál: Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration in partnership with Asian-Pacific Directors Coalition as part of a series that provides a stage and platform for the traditions and accomplishments of the participating communities. Online activities are free of charge.
