As we approach the other end of the pandemic, we have found that the 16-month journey has changed event production “at Seattle Center.” With the moratorium on in-person events last March, organizations on the grounds, along with our own public programming, quickly pivoted to virtual activities. Now that we’re gradually returning to live events, we wonder if virtual offerings will continue. They enabled many of our entities to broaden their reach into new audiences – and parts of the world. Even local audiences found comfort in engaging in arts and culture from their homes.
And so, Seattle Center is transitioning to a dual world of in-person and virtual programming. For the month of July, for example, you can join Workout Wednesdays starting July 7, with Gentle Yoga at 11:30am at Exhibition Hall Lawn and Zumba® Class at 6:30pm on Fisher Pavilion Roof. Or connect with Seattle Center Festál. The series is presented virtually in 2021, including Polish Festival Seattle, July 10 and Festival Sundiata presents Black Arts Fest, July 17-18. Or bring a blanket to Mural Amphitheatre for a Wooden O Shakespeare in the Park live production of The Comedy of Errors, 6pm, July 25.
Pacific Science Center, Seattle Children’s Theatre and MoPOP are offering virtual and in-person educational camps and classes this summer. Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall, now open to the public, offers “grab and go” food from a selection of eateries. While you’re on grounds, check out Chihuly Garden and Glass, MoPOP and the Space Needle, now open daily. And if you wonder to the north end of campus, you’ll find a world-class photojournalism installation just outside Seattle Rep containing “need to know” stories affecting our communities in honor of Juneteenth and civil rights activism.
