We’re proud to share that Seattle has been named one of 50 finalists in the 2025 Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge — with Seattle Center as the lead site for an innovative, cross-department project to pioneer circular waste systems for public spaces.
Seattle Center draws more than 12 million visitors a year and hosts some of the city’s largest events — from Bite of Seattle to the 2026 FIFA World Cup Fan Fest. This initiative aims to dramatically reduce event-related waste and model sustainable practices for major civic spaces across Seattle and beyond.
Congratulations to the many partners across City departments and cultural organizations who contributed to this visionary proposal — and thank you to Bloomberg Philanthropies for supporting Seattle’s efforts to advance environmental leadership and public benefit.
