While most in-person events are on hold, Seattle Center still offers several options to share with that special someone. So don’t let the situational solitude spoil your Valentine’s Day plans, explore the following filled with excitement, romance and fun.
Classical KING FM | Seattle Opera
For the ultimate in operatic passion and drama, tune into Classical KING FM for the final three parts of Richard Wagner’s, Ring Cycle, recorded by Seattle Opera in August 2005, Die Walküre, 7pm tonight; Siegfried, 7pm, Feb. 11, and Götterdämmerung, 10pm, Feb. 13 (Seattle Opera KINGFM). Or take in Seattle Opera’s The Elixir of Love, aromantic romp through comedy, quackery and happy truths, streaming online in honor of Valentine’s Day, Feb. 12-14 (For more information click here.). Seattle Opera also presents Tenor Andrew Stenson in a free digital solo recital featuring love songs from the 20th century, including some amusing love songs made for TV (Seattle Opera on stage).
Pacific Northwest Ballet
Just in time for Valentine’s week, Pacific Northwest Ballet’s production of Roméo & Juliette, music by Sergei Prokofiev, posts digitally Feb. 11-15 (PNB). SIFF is offering the widely praised (and just released)“Two of Us,”a French tale about two retired women, who have been secretly in love for decades. Everybody thinks they are simply neighbors sharing the top floor of their building until an unforeseen event turns their relationship upside down(SIFF). Shakespeare may be the most often quoted writer when it comes to the subject of love. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Seattle Shakespeare Company has created a collection of scenes, sonnets, and songs from Shakespeare’s works that open the heart. Space Needle
For the loftiest of Valentine’s dates, try the Space Needle’s Drinks on the Deck: Valentine’s Weekend, Feb. 12-15, a two-hour experience in your own private look out with a champagne tasting flight, savory bites and the iconic Lunar Orbiter dessert with bon bons (Space Needle Experience)
MoPOP
Of course, we understand you might not swoon for Valentine’s Day, so why not make some popcorn and indulge in some cinematic junk food that feeds the soul, tickles the funny bone and makes your eyes roll at MoPOP’s So Bad, It’s Good movie series featuring Con Air, 6pm on Feb. 13 (MoPOP plus education).
