The Next 50 Book and Preview

Seattle Center is pleased to announce a newly published book, The Future Remembered: The 1962 Seattle World’s Fair and Its Legacy as well as some major program elements of The Next Fifty celebrating the World’s Fair 50th anniversary, April 21 – Oct. 21, 2012. The events, experiences, exhibits and performances offer audiences a broad range of informative, compelling, interactive and entertaining programs.

Monorail Fare Increases – Nov. 1

New Seattle Center Monorail fare rates go into effect Nov. 1, 2011. They include increases in adult and youth fares as well as adult monthly passes. Roundtrip fares remain at twice the price of a one-way fare, and group rate discounts reflect the price increase. Rider rates for seniors, people with disabilities and Medicare cards holders do not change.

Food Court Remains Open as the Redo Begins

Seattle Center began redevelopment of the Center House Food Court this week. The project will refresh and update the large interior area, replace some exterior walls with large storefront windows and doors, add an exterior deck, and upgrade food offerings.

Seattle Mural Receives a Facelift

Art conservators will work through July 29 to replace missing glass pieces and remove silica deposits from the surface of the Seattle Mural, originally recreated for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair by famed northwest artist Paul Horiuchi.

Seattle Center Movies at the Mural Starts July 30

Seattle Center Movies at the Mural offers an outstanding line-up of family and date-friendly films this summer shown outdoors, July 30 and August 13, 20, 27 and 28, at Mural Amphitheatre at Seattle Center.

KEXP & Seattle Center Present Concerts at the Mural

The 2011 KEXP & Seattle Center present Concerts at the Mural kicks off August 5 at Mural Amphitheatre at Seattle Center with a roots, rock and folk show by local favorites The Maldives, Hey Marseilles and Black Whales. The series, now in its fourth year, will present five concerts throughout the month of August, all free to the public.

50th Anniversary Countdown Begins

Today begins the one-year countdown to The Next Fifty, six months of events and activities planned in 2012 at Seattle Center that celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair, the legacy it left to the region, and the opportunities ahead during the next fifty years.

International Fountain – Water Flows Again

International Fountain resumed operations today, along with all of the other wonderful Seattle Center waterworks.
